Brakes

Your brakes are the single most important safety feature of your vehicle and Fast Lane is here to make sure they work properly for yoi - every time.

Even if they don't fail completely, poorly maintained brakes can malfunction in ways that put you, your passengers and other road users at risk. Braking distances increase. Uneven braking can lead to uncontrollable skids.

Brake Technology

Your car will have a handbrake, drum or disc brakes on the front and rear wheels, a hydraulic system to operate them, and possibly an Antilock Braking System (ABS). All must be maintained.

The handbrake holds your car when it is parked. It is also an emergency brake.

Drum brakes have shoes which need periodical inspection, adjustment and eventually replacement. A lack of adjustment can lead to premature wear.

Disc brakes have pads which need regular checking. If the pad is allowed to wear too thin the disc itself may be damaged and replacement is expensive.

The hoses of the hydraulic system should be checked regularly, along with the valves, rubber elements and any servos. The brake fluid level should be checked often.

Checking and maintaining ABS is a highly specialized job. Fast Lane specialists are trained by Ford and equipped to work on ABS systems.

Checks Pay Off

Regular checks of your braking system will ensure that your vehicle continues to be safe to drive. They may also reveal faults before they become dangerous or expensive to repair. At Fast Lane we can carry out brake safety checks quickly, while you wait. If you have any queries about your brakes, one of our trained specialists will be pleased to help you.
